However, considering how often I update this site, this is practically a "scoop." Adam Young is a successful pop artist - basically a one man band called "Owl City." He is also a Christian. What I like about his recent blog post is not simply that it reveals his faith, but that it reveals his faith simply. No flashy TV evangelism here. Just a man whose cup overflowed with the Gospel. It is one of several "Sphere" chamber groups founded by composer, pianist, and countertenor Matt Monticchio. Vocal Sphere's first public performance (beside a Sunday morning at Matt's church, Wheatland Presbyterian) was for Lancaster Bible College's "Faculty and Friends Concert" last week. Although the acoustics of the Good Shepherd Chapel don't exactly lend themselves to Renaissance vocal music, the group was very well received.

Here is Vocal Sphere performing "O quam gloriosum" at the Faculty and Friends Concert. Listening to one by Alistair Begg right now from Psalm 32. In teaching on v. 7 "..you surround me with shouts (songs) of deliverance" he quotes Alec Motyer's book "Look to the Rock: An Old Testament Background to Our Understanding of Christ." It drives home the weight of responsibility that our young worship leaders will be carrying as they graduate from LBC and enter their careers. Motyer says:

"When truth gets into a creed or a hymn-book, it becomes the confident possession of the whole church."

Begg then adds:
"As a church sings, so a church will live."

Wow.

One of the most important habits that I developed during my internship under Dan Perrin at CBC, was going through new worship songs with a fine tooth comb so as to root out "loose" doctrine. Begg's sermon underscores the importance of that process.

As we choose songs for worship, we are steering the very creed of our congregation!

Sobering stuff.

Back to blowing my nose.

Rob

Lancaster Bible College Chamber Singers

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pb3MwF9ueTM/R_Pg888EXuI/AAAAAAAAAFU/ah_HFv_0PwY/s320/Chamber+Singers.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184734933788417762" />The LBC Chamber Singers

Rob started this group in the Fall of 2007.
